SOUL-1 – Founder, Broadcaster, Music Curator & Caribbean Radio Pioneer
For Soul-1, music has never been just a hobby—it has been a lifelong passion rooted in family, culture, and community. His musical journey began at an early age, inspired by his father, whose accordion performances and extensive record collection filled their home with the sounds of Jamaica and beyond.
In 1971, Soul-1 co-founded the disco group Ecstasy alongside Donavan Martin, Danny Smith, and Lloyd Eccleston. The group quickly became a fixture at high school form parties and house gatherings, entertaining audiences with carefully curated selections and an infectious love for music. Dedicated to building their collection, the group would save their lunch money each week to purchase records from popular Kingston music stores such as Aquarius in Half-Way-Tree, while also receiving regular shipments of the latest releases from the United States.
After migrating to the United States in 1978, Soul-1 continued to expand his musical horizons and collection, successfully adapting through every era of music technology—from vinyl records and cassette tapes to CDs and today’s digital MP3 formats. His ability to evolve with the industry while preserving the authentic essence of Caribbean music has become one of his defining strengths.
As the internet transformed broadcasting, Soul-1 embraced the digital age, sharing his music through online platforms including Yahoo Music Rooms, Irie Times Radio, and Netlyme Radio. These experiences ignited a passion for internet radio and provided the foundation for what would become his most significant achievement.
In January 2017, Soul-1 founded CariVibez Radio, creating a platform dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating Caribbean music, culture, and lifestyle for a global audience. Under his leadership, CariVibez Radio has grown into a respected online station known for its diverse programming, talented DJs, and commitment to keeping Caribbean culture alive through music.
Today, Soul-1 remains a driving force behind CariVibez Radio, combining decades of musical knowledge, broadcasting experience, and cultural pride to deliver quality entertainment to listeners around the world. His dedication to music, community, and Caribbean heritage continues to inspire audiences and fellow broadcasters alike.
